Breatharian diet

Book Series: Minor Diets

The Human Body Needs Nutrition

Consuming food is necessary to survive. The human body cannot function if it does not have proper nutrition. Yet there is one train of thought that has a different idea. The Breatharian Diet is a philosophy that a person can survive and function by not consuming any food. Breatharians believe that the human body can survive solely on prana, which is also known in Hinduism as a vital life force that makes the body alive.

Imagine living and functioning without needing to consume any food at all.

The Breatharian diet is not only a belief, but it is also a practice, and in this book, you will learn all there is to know about the Breatharian diet.

Why Read About Breatharianism?

If you were contemplating switching to this type of lifestyle, it would be wise to read through this post for research purposes. Many people want to consider this lifestyle but do not know all it entails. Breatharians do not simply believe that you do not need food to function. They refrain from consuming foods, even for special occasions.

Hinduism and Other Religious Practices

People who practice Hinduism are the people who primarily attempt to practice the Breatharian diet. Still, many people from all types of religions practice it. People attempt a few variations of this diet, resulting in abstaining from eating food. For example, Taoists and Shamans have practiced Breatharianism and have tried to function without eating or drinking any foods.

While in most places, no food or water is consumed when going on the Breatharian diet, most people cannot function for a few days without at least drinking water or tea.

People must have some substance to function properly throughout the day, yet Breatharians believe that positive energy and prana can help them function.

Figuring out where the Breatharian diet finds its origins is essential to gaining a broader understanding of the practice. Understanding the religious roots in the diet and the train of thought behind the Breatharian diet, you can understand why people practice this type of diet. This book will explore the origins of the Breatharian diet and the people who have made it popular in today's world.

There are many cases and studies where people claim to have gone on the Breatharian diet for an extended amount of time. Learn more about these claims and what was discovered after people went on the Breatharian diet for a brief period. You will find no better way to gauge whether or not this type of diet you should consider other than learning from actual studies for yourself. Jumping into something without doing your fair share of research is not wise, no matter what you do.

Allow this book to provide you with the most reliable source for understanding the Breatharian diet and how it could affect your body. Going through this diet requires a significant focus and determination, but it does not come without setbacks. Therefore, consider all of the advice presented so that you are not left in question whether or not the Breatharian diet is something that you want to experience.

Have you tried any other intense diets or cleanse before? If this were your first attempt at any drastic change to how your body functions, then it would be wise to try another type of diet or cleanse first. For instance, many people go on a diet revolving around eating soups for a couple of weeks before attempting the Breatharian diet. The reason for this is that your body may go into shock when you decide to refrain from eating all food entirely, which could cause your body a great deal of harm.

The most significant benefit of practicing Breatharianism is building your mind and body to become highly resilient. When you can have a strong body that is extremely resilient to giving in to your cravings and temptation, you should then also be able to resist temptation elsewhere in life. The ability to refrain from food and allow your body to function normally still is a great skill, but it does not come without its set of risks. Make sure that you read the chapters of this book dealing with the studies scientists have conducted concerning the Breatharian diet. It will help enlighten you about what it means to go through this diet.

Keep in mind that many people do not expect to live for the rest of their lives without eating any type of food. The truth of the matter is people need nutrients to function, and while the sun does provide a person's body with a good amount of nutrients, it has not been proven that it can be a substitute for eating food. So remember, eating food and drinking water is essential to life, and that should never be overlooked for an extended time.

The Breatharian diet has been a topic that has been widely debated for quite some time. After reading this book, you should have a greater understanding of what it means to go through the Breatharian diet. You should be an excellent resource for others interested in going through this type of diet and can help spread the word about both the benefits and downfalls of this diet. Read this book, and in time you will realize when you may want to go on the Breatharian diet and for how long you should practice it without causing harm to your body.

AN OVERVIEW OF THE BREATHARIAN DIET

Breatharian is the term used to refer to people who believe in and practice the Breatharian diet. Breatharians believe a person can sustain their body simply through meditation. The belief is that a person who meditates and concentrates enough will eventually reach a level of consciousness where she or she can obtain the sustenance the body needs simply through sunlight or air. No matter your stance on the Breatharian diet, read this book to understand the practice better.

As of today, no person has been documented to survive longer than a little over a week without any food or water. No matter how hard a person has been able to concentrate through meditation, their body eventually requires physical sustenance to survive. People who have attempted to avoid food and water and rely on air and sunlight solely wound up dead.

The Breatharian diet caught the interest of many people in North America in the early 1990s. Since that time, the practice of abstaining from food to utilize air and sunlight as energy has been widespread in certain circles. However, most people who practice Breatharianism only do so for short periods. Eventually, most people make the switch back to eating food.

Conditioning The Body To The Breatharian Diet

Think of practicing the ability to live without food the same as conditioning oneself for a sport. Breatharians believe that if they can adequately condition their body, they will live without the need for food for long periods. Therefore, many Breatharians decide to eat limited amounts of food and drink small amounts of water and tea while on a diet. Most will attempt to live without food for at least a few days before having small portions of food and water.

Hardcore people who practice the Breatharian diet constantly go on and off this practice method. These people believe that by meditating hard enough and harnessing enough prana, they won't need to live off of food or water ever again. Unfortunately, as time progresses, the longer people go without regularly eating food or water, the more damage they do to their bodies. This is because the body requires adequate sustenance to function correctly. Otherwise, it will wither and deteriorate; when the human body does not have regular nourishment, the immune system weakens and becomes vulnerable to various health conditions.

Most people who practice the Breatharian diet do not instantly convert to this practice without a transition. The body cannot simply quit eating altogether; it takes time for someone's body to adjust. If you are seriously interested in practicing the Breatharian diet, you should also consider helping your body make the proper transition.

Firstly, someone interested in practicing the Breatharian diet should consider becoming a vegetarian. This transition will help a person whose body relies heavily on meat to become accustomed to fueling their body with other protein sources. The body can go into intense cravings for meat when it does not have some for a while, causing you to give in to your temptations and eat meat. Instead of instantly altering the status of your body, become a vegetarian to see how it reacts.

The next step is to switch to a vegan diet. Vegans must follow even stricter eating habits and eat less massively solid foods than vegetarians. As the body is transitioning to eating less and less food, the stomach will shrink, and the body will lose more fat, causing the body to rely on less and less food each day.

Eating nothing but raw foods is primarily the next step in the progression of the Breatharian diet. The purpose is to fuel the body with fewer foods rich in fats and sugars. As a person continues to transition towards eating no food, they are conditioning both the body and the mind to handle no food and water for long periods. Switching to raw foods presents a formidable challenge to most people, but it is a testament to a person's ability to prevent their body and mind from giving in to temptation.

Depending on the person, they may switch from raw foods to simply fruits for sustenance. Some people move straight to liquids; others eat fruits and then liquids. Small amounts of fruits are consumed throughout the day to give the body a minimal amount of carbohydrates to keep the body fueled. Most fruit eaten is low in carbohydrates, and only small portions are eaten to prevent the body from consuming too many carbohydrates that eventually turn into fat.

Before converting solely to air and sunlight for Breatharians, the last step is to consume only liquids. Liquids such as limited freshly blended fruit, tea, and water are all on the menu for those on the Breatharian diet. The goal for a person at this stage of the transition towards no food is to focus and meditate – and consume more water than any other liquid. This is the last step before a person attempts to rely on prana, and at this point, a person's true commitment to the change to the Breatharian diet is tested.

Living on prana, or sunlight and air require the body to limit its daily exerts. The body will already function at a limited capacity after it has gone through the stages of becoming adjusted to no food. Still, once the body consumes no food, it is highly recommended to limit oneself to a few set movements a day.

As a person undergoes the Breatharian diet, they will attempt to tap into a part of the body that will allow them to transmute air and light into sustenance. Should a person have limited natural sunlight, they should find an alternative source. Various light sources are available for purchase to allow the body to absorb the required amount to function.

WHAT THE BREATHARIAN DIET DOES TO THE HUMAN BODY

You know the basic fact that the human body needs some physical sustenance to function correctly. As a person attempts the Breatharian diet, what exactly are they doing to their body? Learn in-depth what this diet does to the body and why it is not safe to abstain from eating and drinking.

The body relies heavily on balanced glucose levels to help it function properly. Glucose is a basic carbohydrate or sugar. Glucose allows the body to carry out all bodily functions you take for granted. For example, your ability to breathe, move blood, break down food, and complete all of your bodily functions rely on glucose to carry out those actions.

After glucose, the body turns to fats to break down and use as fuel to carry out its daily functions. Therefore, storing healthy fats in the body is an excellent way to remain healthy. Good fats can be found in foods such as guacamole because they quickly break down and help the body function normally.

Protein is the last fuel source the body relies on to break down as fuel. As you know, proteins are considered the building blocks of life. Human bodies rely heavily on proteins to function normally; when the human body starts breaking down the protein in its body, it becomes at risk for serious health problems. In addition, the body becomes severely dehydrated when it is not fueled with food and water that contains the necessary vitamins and minerals to remain healthy.

The longer a person abstains from food and water, the more prone their body is to turn excessive fatty acids into ketone bodies. Should a person's body produce too many ketone bodies for their body to handle, they will put themselves at risk for acquiring ketosis, which is described as a chemical imbalance that can threaten a person's life.

Ketosis harms the body because, at this point, a person's body starts to release toxins into the bloodstream, creating a toxic environment in the body. With toxins in the blood, all of the organs in the human body begin to fail one by one. So first, the body will start to experience kidney failure, then it may even go into shock. The shock to the human body can lead to seizures, brain damage, and death.

The brain damage suffered from dehydration through practicing the Breatharian diet can be permanent. Understanding that the body is put at this type of risk is critical for all who attempt the Breatharian diet. Before you contemplate the Breatharian diet, consider the dangers associated with practicing the diet.

Weight loss is a natural result of abstaining from eating. At first, it may seem that losing weight by going through the Breatharian diet is healthy, but it could be harmful to the body. A person should attempt to lose weight through other methods, not the Breatharian diet. Your body will have a better chance to maintain its functions when you do not dehydrate it drastically over a short period.

Long Term Side Effects Of The Breatharian Diet

Kidney failure is one of the most common side effects of attempting the Breatharian diet. The body relies heavily on the kidneys to produce healthier blood. The kidneys help you extract all of the bad things inside of your body so that you can live a healthy life. Kidney damage is not something to overlook; it can cause a severe scar on the body and leave the kidneys unable to function normally after being damaged, causing your body to have a more challenging time maintaining a toxic-free environment.

Mental damage can be another significant result of practicing the Breatharian diet. Remember, having a stroke can be a side effect of neglecting to ingest food or water. Did you know that after the human body goes through a stroke, a person can lose a portion of their motor functions and mental capacity? This means that a person may not be as cognitively aware as they were before the stroke or may not be as able to move parts of the body.

Entering into a coma can be another result of attempting the Breatharian diet. As the body becomes too tired, it simply may not have the power to function normally. The mind can slip into a coma, and it can take anywhere from days, weeks, to months to recover if a person does not become completely brain dead. Worse, a person may die from slipping into a coma and losing most of their bodily functions.

Even after you drink water after being severely dehydrated, your body can go through complications. The body will try to compensate for the lack of water inside and put too much water into your cells, which can cause your brain to swell. The swelling in the brain can be life-threatening; therefore, it is recommended not to cause the body to become severely dehydrated, or else you could suffer from swelling in the brain.

The one side effect that no one wants to suffer from due to the Breatharian diet is death. Unfortunately, there are reports of people who have died by attempting this diet, so do not take it lightly. Make sure that you do everything in your power to remain as healthy as possible.

FASTING COMPARED TO THE BREATHARIAN DIET

Fasting consists of a person forcing their body to only drink liquids. Compared to the Breatharian diet, fasting is seen as a healthier alternative. People who fast do not have to stop their bodies from taking any nourishment. Depending on the kind of fast a person undergoes, they will fuel their body with water and natural juices. Giving your body some sustenance instead of none at all will allow it to function correctly.

Luckily, a person who fasts can opt to drink water or drink a specific liquid with nutrients to allow the body to remain healthy. Fasting is not recommended for an extended time, even if one gets some nutrients. It is important for a person to eat something and allow their body to break down whatever substance they consume to gain nutrients. Even if a person takes supplements to help provide the body with vitamins and minerals, there is no substitute for eating healthy food that nourishes the body.

Most people who attempt to fast opt to drink nourishing liquids instead of water alone. Those who fast may make a specially blended drink with nutritional additives to help fuel their body correctly. Fasts are attempted to cleanse the body, and people who go through them pay close attention to how the body reacts to the change. A common misconception is that the Breatharian diet is the same thing as fasting, but the truth is they are entirely different.

Another significant difference between the Breatharian diet and fasting is the amount of exposure to sunlight. When a person attempts the Breatharian diet, they attempt to gain more exposure to the sun. This is because the person is trying to gain nutrients from the light. On the other hand, someone who fasts is simply attempting to detoxify their body and provide the intestinal tract with a way to flush out the system.

The longer people go without eating food and/or refraining from fueling their bodies with any type of substance, the more damage they do to their bodies. Anyone who attempts the Breatharian diet or fasting should consult with a medical professional to decide whether their body fits this drastic change. Do not forgo visiting a doctor to seek a professional's opinion before you change your eating habits, or else you could become tired to the point where you will faint, which can cause you to become weak for at least a week or so.

When weighing out whether or not the Breatharian diet or fasting is more beneficial for a person's health, fasting wins every time. The Breatharian diet consists of strictly no food and, most of the time, no water throughout the diet. Keeping that in mind, fasting does allow a person to fuel their body with liquids to provide proper nutrition. Therefore, if you want to refrain from eating food for a short period, it would be best for your body to fast.

Can Breatharians Drink Water?

The Breatharian diet is not without its variations. However, the two main types of practices involved with the Breatharian diet involved either not eating or drinking anything whatsoever or drinking small amounts of water or tea during this diet. The latter is the healthier of the two options since it does allow your body to intake some type of sustenance for nourishment purposes.

People interested in practicing the Breatharian diet are advised to provide their body with at least water and tea. While most practitioners think it is unsafe to prevent your body from eating or drinking anything, they recommend fueling it with something rather than nothing. The body can function much better in general when it at least has water to help keep it hydrated.

When a person drinks water daily, their body may survive for several months before it begins to break down and die severely. Records have shown people who have endured several months solely drinking water alone. Yet, no records have proven that someone can survive more than a little over a week without ingesting anything. Therefore, all of the claims people have made regarding not eating or drinking anything for several weeks or months at a time are false. The truth is people need to ingest, at the very least, water to function. The body cannot survive if it is dehydrated.

Going more than a few days without drinking or eating anything requires a considerable amount of patience. Think about what your body goes through when it misses only one meal on a given day. Now multiply that several times a day and over a period of time, and you will see why it is important to at the very least drink water if you attempt to go on the Breatharian diet.

WHAT DO SCIENTISTS SAY ABOUT THE BREATHARIAN DIET?

Scientists have conducted extensive research on the effects of fasting and preventing the human body from eating food or receiving nourishment. All studies point to the fact that the body needs food and water to function correctly. The human body can work for days and possibly weeks without food, but it cannot function properly without at least water. Furthermore, the body begins to break down – to the point of death -- when it does not receive the proper amount of food.

The truth is, individuals who have attempted the Breatharian diet and fasted for as long as possible have died. This is because the longer you go without food, the more your stomach begins to eat away at the fat stored in your body. Every day, the hungry feeling you get happens when your stomach starts to eat itself. Over time if you allow your stomach to continue to eat itself, you will lose a large amount of fat. You will become exhausted, leaving you vulnerable to contracting diseases or other medical conditions, which could lead to dehydration to the point of death.

The cases of people who have claimed to go through the Breatharian fast and lived are false. When people who claim to have completed a practice wind up becoming imposters, it is wise to choose to avoid attempting that practice. Never allow anyone to talk you into avoiding food; neglecting to ingest food is ultimately bad for both your short and long-term health.

Scientists have studied the bodies and minds of people who have gone on the Breatharian diet and other fasts for quite some time. Their research points to the conclusion that it is not beneficial in any sort of way to allow the body to go through this type of process, especially without medical consultation first.

No scientist wants to conduct extensive research on a person destroying their body. However, all medical professionals understand the variety of risks a person puts their body through when attempting this sort of diet. Unfortunately, far too many people have become severely injured, and others have lost their lives by following the Breatharian diet.

No scientist would advise that a person attempt to prove them wrong either. In cases where prominent advocates for Breatharianism have subjected themselves to being studied, medical professionals have stopped the diet to nourish a person back to normal health. Keep in mind that there are not only risks to a person attempting to fast and avoid water, but there is also a risk to the body after they begin to add food, water, and nutrients back into their body.

Can Humans Obtain Nourishment From Sun And Air

Oxygen and sunlight are essential to human life. People need sunlight and vitamin D to boost their immune systems, have energy, and function properly. There are a variety of reasons as to why sunlight is important for the human body, but no studies have revealed that the human body can use the sun or light as one source of energy.

Humans need oxygen to breathe. Without oxygen, the human body will suffocate and die. In addition, people who have gone even short periods without oxygen have been known to suffer brain damage, which the body has a hard time recovering from.

Being able to transmute oxygen into nourishment for the body has never been possible. While the human body does need oxygen to help it produce energy and carry out its various functions, it cannot rely on air alone to survive. Scientists have yet to record anyone surviving or living off of just air alone, do not let anyone fool you into believing otherwise.

Plants have a completely different physical and chemical structure than humans. The reason plants can convert sunlight into a source of energy is because they evolved on this planet. People interested in practicing Breatharianism need to be aware that the human body must rely on food and water to survive.

Our bodies rely on various sources of fuel to maintain proper balance. We rely on food and water, but we need sunlight and air to remain alive. Our bodies need sunlight and oxygen to operate properly, but only with other nutrients.

The human body is a highly complex creation. Humans function at a much higher capacity than other living organisms on this planet. The human body needs a variety of sources of energy because of how complex it is for the brain to carry out mental and motor functions. Without consistent nourishment for the body and brain, the human body will become weak and shut down.

HAS ANYONE SUCCESSFULLY MAINTAINED THE BREATHARIAN DIET?

No person has successfully completed the Breatharian diet. However, numerous people have claimed to go through the Breatharian diet but were later revealed to be frauds. This chapter will learn where the Breatharian diet originated from and recent records of people who recently attempted the practice.

Paracelsus' Claim Of Sages Going 20 Years Without Food

One of the earliest recordings of the Breatharian diet dates back to the late 1400s. The physician named Paracelsus claimed to have lived several years by only ingesting one-half scruple of Solar Quintessence. In his book, Paracelsus reported he witnessed several sages fast for twenty years without eating anything throughout the entire two-decade period. These claims have no real foundation other than being reported, which significantly reduces the credibility of the findings in the book. With modern studies pointing to the fact that the human body cannot survive without sustenance, it appears improbable that the sages could live without food.

The sages may have produced some type of liquid substance that provided their bodies with enough nourishment to sustain them. The body does not need as much food and water as a constantly moving person with minimal movement. The more a person exerts energy, the more nutrients they need to function. There is a slight possibility that if the sages hardly moved much, they could have found a liquid substance that kept them alive; the book states Paracelsus never saw the sages eat, but there are no recordings of whether or not sages drank any type of substance.

Ray Maor

Ray Maor is one of the few people recorded to go more than a week without eating or drinking anything. Maor participated in an Israeli television show called Real Face. He was able to survive a total of eight days and nights without any type of food or water. In addition, daily blood tests were taken to monitor his body and health. At the end of the trial, Maor lost 17 pounds; the good news is that the blood tests did not reveal any changes to his body after completing the eighth day.

Wiley Brooks, The Founder Of The Breatharian Institute Of America

Wiley Brooks is the founder of the Breatharian Institute of America; here, Brooks believed that people could survive without food. In 1980 Brooks came to fame when he appeared on television. He stopped teaching to pursue endeavors to find a reason as to why he needed food to survive in the physical world.

The Breatharian Institute of America has been known to charge people upwards of one hundred thousand dollars and even has gotten as much as one billion dollars to help its clients learn how to live without food. The sessions Brooks holds are titled immortality workshops and are designed to teach people they do not need food in their lives.

Controversy circles Brooks not only because he charges hundreds of thousands to a billion dollars to his clients but because he has been caught eating fast food. In fact, in 1983, Brooks was seen exiting a 7-Eleven with a hot dog, Twinkies, and a Slurpee, all junk foods. Brooks justified himself by stating he needed to consume junk food because a junk culture surrounded him; he also said that he could find balance by consuming these foods.

Wiley Brooks has claimed that he could very well abstain from eating and drinking but that there are four deterrents to why that is impossible. Brooks argues that electro pollution, people pollution, air pollution, and food pollution are the four major contributors to why he cannot avoid eating and drinking altogether. Brooks states this is why he was caught outside of a 7-Eleven with junk food in his hand because all the pollution he is surrounded by forces him to eat unhealthily.

Jasmuheen And Her Wild Claims Of Practicing The Breatharian Diet

A major advocate for Breatharianism is a woman by the name of Ellen Greve, who goes by Jasmuheen. She claims to go on months and months without the need for any type of food but does drink a cup of tea during the process. She claimed that her body was fueled by nourishment different than others. These claims were debunked as interviewers found her home full of food, but she claims the food is present for her family.

Jasmuheen volunteered to be closely monitored in 1999 by a team of people from the television show 60 Minutes in Australia. She was supposed to go for one week without eating anything. Still, only after three days of being monitored, she expressed her frustration of not receiving enough nourishment because she was in an environment that did not contain fresh air, which she claims is vital to her success on a diet.

Jasmuheen was relocated to a mountain retreat to regain her strength and breathe fresh air. Four days after she started her fast, she was urged by a doctor to stop the test and to fuel her body with food. Her practitioner, Dr. Wink, reported that Jasmuheen had dilated pupils and that she appeared extremely dehydrated, slowing her speech and other bodily functions. During the test, the doctor revealed that if Jasmuheen continued with the Breatharian diet, she could put her body at risk for kidney failure.

Ram Bahadur Bomjon

One of the prominent practices of the Breatharian Diet is Ram Bahadur Bomjon, who was recorded in a documentary by the Discovery Channel in 2006 for his efforts to avoid eating food or drinking water. Ram Bahadur Bomjon does not live without any type of food or water at all times, yet he has gone periods without ingesting any water or food. The documentary was titled "The Boy With Divine Powers" and revealed Bomjon did not eat, drink or move for an entire 96 hours of filming. This is one recorded study of a person who can avoid ingesting solids and liquids but who still must eat and drink at some point to survive.

RELIGIONS THAT PRACTICE SIMILAR DIETS

Breatharianism is primarily derived from Hinduism. Many texts claim saints have practiced a form of living called inedia, or Breatharianism in the Hindu religion. As you know, by practicing this way of living, these saints claimed to live without eating or drinking any food or water.

Hinduism Concerning The Breatharian Diet

Sustenance through light is the practice of inedia, also known in modern times as Breatharianism. There are many accounts of saints in Hindu books who live on rays from the sun. The texts claim that the holy men lived on air supplies for food.

An Indian man named Devraha Baba is reported to have lived without food. He was a religious man who did his best to make it so that all religions could coexist. His date of birth is unknown, but he died unrelated to the Breatharian diet in 1990.

The Taoist Belief Of Avoiding Grains

Big is a Taoist technique that involves fasting, yet it is different from most fasting techniques as it only involves avoiding grains. This practice aims to prevent grains and achieve immortality through transcendence, or xian. This type of fasting is not as intense as Breatharianism, but it is rigorous because a person cannot eat anything derived from grains.

People believed there were grain-eating spirits inside the human body called sanshi. These spirits would report all sins to heaven of the person they lived inside every 60 days. A person who allowed these spirits to dwell inside would eventually be punished with sickness and ultimately an early death, which sparked many Taoists to abstain from eating grains.

In some cases, Big practitioners would practice avoiding grains to a more severe level and not eating any food. Many fasting religious beliefs revolve around the idea of immortality and the ability for a human to transcend humanity and reach enlightenment. By avoiding food, people who practice Breatharianism and Big believe they could tap into the hidden potential in their body to reach a higher plane of existence.

Buddhists And The Breatharian Diet

Buddhists are widely known to fast. The religion revolves around people fasting for extended periods. Some people claim that certain Buddhists take fasting to the next level and practice not drinking anything in addition to not eating. A prominent Buddhist, Ram Bahadur Bomjon, is a Buddhist who has been observed meditating for days at a time without lifting a finger to eat or drink.

Tracing his origins back to Nepal, Ram Bahadur Bomjon has had people claim that he is the reincarnation of Buddha. However, he claims that he is his own entity and not Buddha. Still, he is found meditating for extended periods without the need to move.

By meditating for so long, Ram Bahadur Bomjon limits the amount of energy his body requires to function. Journalists and other groups of people sometimes study him as he meditates. He has been recorded to go for as long as a couple of days without the need for food or water. No actual recording of the longest period Ram Bahadur Bomjon has gone without food or water is available, but it is assumed that he can go for a while without any.

Is Breatharianism A Religion?

Breatharianism is a belief; therefore, people can view this practice as a religion. The most significant foundation of Breatharianism is the belief that human bodies do not need food and water to function, which is tied to many religious beliefs. As explained, Buddhists, Taoists, and other religious people attempt to fast and go without food and water entirely. This belief is tied to various religions, but Breatharianism may or may not be seen as a religion depending on how you look at it.

HOW LIGHT THERAPY RELATES TO THE BREATHARIAN DIET

Light therapy, also known as phototherapy, is when a person exposes their body to specific wavelengths or daylight. When a person exposes themselves to light in this manner, they use bright full-spectrum light, fluorescent lamps, light-emitting diodes, dichroic lamps, or lasers. The belief is that by being exposed to these types of light, a person will tap into their prana and use the light as a fuel source.

Contrary to what people who practice the Breatharian diet believe, no scientific studies have concluded that the human body can substitute light as a source of energy over food and water. Light therapy can improve the body's ability to fend off certain medical conditions such as acne vulgaris or psoriasis. Still, this practice cannot do much more for the body than proving to heal certain ailments.

Benefits Of Practicing Light Therapy

Light therapy practice is not limited to those attempting the Breatharian diet. There are various health benefits that light therapy can provide for a person. One of the most common is that a person who takes the time to expose their skin and body to the sun will get a sufficient amount of vitamin D, which is essential to the function of the human body. Anyone who suffers from a lack of vitamin D should consider light therapy to help stimulate their body and mind to get the proper exposure to light.

When attempting the Breatharian diet, your body may experience various benefits. One good part of the diet is that it can help you flush many harmful toxins out of your body. Flushing out the toxins in your body in conjunction with exposing yourself to light therapy can help improve your skin, especially for those who suffer from bad skin conditions. While medical professionals still do not recommend it to attempt the Breatharian diet, it still can present itself with benefits to the body.

Light therapy can serve as a way for people who suffer from skin disorders. As mentioned earlier, skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, acne vulgaris, and neonatal jaundice can all be extinguished through light therapy. Light therapy works to rid the body of these medical ailments by stimulating the reproduction of new skin cells, thus eliminating the old ones that are present and visible on the body.

When scientists studied the Breatharian diet may not be ideal for the body, but it can come with some health benefits. One of the major benefits a person can receive by obtaining a healthy amount of exposure to the sun and light is that they will gain improved tolerance to light and provide them with a good amount of vitamin D.

The sun and exposure to light can improve your mood and negate negative and depressing thoughts. People need exposure to sunlight to maintain a positive perspective on life. When humans are not getting enough sunlight, it is proven their mood drops, and they start to think more negatively about life. Another positive of the Breatharian diet is that it does get a person accustomed to constant sunlight, which can help create good habits.

Light Therapy Side Effects

Practicing light therapy does not come without its set of risks. One of the biggest risks you take when attempting light therapy is obtaining skin cancer. Overexposure to the sun and light rays can eat your skin and put you at risk for cancer. If you plan to attempt the Breatharian diet and make plans to gain more exposure than usual to the sun and other sources of light, make sure that you limit yourself so that you do not cause your body harm.

Apply suntan lotion to your skin if you plan on staying in the sun for a long while. There is no reason why you should not take preventative measures to prevent skin cancer or other types of skin conditions. The Breatharian diet is focused on not eating food, not regulating what you can do with your body. Take the time to be as precautious as possible, and good things will occur in your body.

Attempting light therapy in conjunction with limiting the amount of food and water you drink can be dangerous should you be in the middle of recovering from an ailment. For example, suppose you recently had surgery, recovered from being sick, or are in the process of healing your body in some way. In that case, it is recommended that you avoid the Breatharian diet and light therapy. You could be slowing down your healing process or, at the very least, hurt your ability to recover fully.

Light therapy should be practiced during the warmer months of the year if you plan on utilizing energy from the sun. Attempting to rely on the sun during the colder months of the year could leave you disappointed. All you need is patience, and in time you will be able to take in the sun throughout the later spring, summer, and early fall seasons.

SHOULD YOU ATTEMPT THE BREATHARIAN DIET?

The Breatharian diet should be reserved for those who understand the exact risks associated with going through the practice of not eating any type of food for a short period. Never is it safe for a person to refrain from eating food when they lack knowledge of what harm it can do for their body. Your body will start breaking down and lose some of its bodily functions when it does not have the proper nutrients needed to maintain your health. For instance, your body needs carbohydrates to help provide you with energy to move, which will be hard to accomplish when your body is depleted of carbohydrates and other nutrients.

People who practice Hinduism and believe they can tap into their prana should be wary of going on a Breatharian diet for any length of time. While everyone is entitled to practice and do as they wish with their body, it is simply scientifically proven that this practice is detrimental to their health. That is not to say that prana does not exist, but it cannot compensate for all that foods and drinks do to help provide the body with a proper amount of nutrients to function daily. Essentially all living organisms need food to survive, and humans need to eat and digest food to maintain their bodies.

Even a day on the Breatharian diet can present risks to a person's body. Someone who is fragile and has various health conditions should refrain from drastically changing their body's chemistry, meaning they should not do anything that can trigger the body to relapse or become damaged beyond repair. For instance, someone with diabetes needs nutrients and a balanced amount of sugar to function properly. They may be prone to a stroke or severe fatigue; therefore, a person who has diabetes should never attempt to go on a Breatharian diet due to the health risk it presents.

Those still contemplating the decision to attempt the Breatharian diet should recall in the earlier chapter about the people who claimed to have gone through the diet, only to be exposed as frauds. No person is capable of living off the energy from the sun. Plants can absorb enough nutrients from the sun to function properly, but they must be hydrated with water to survive. Remember, our bodies take in nutrients from the sun, the sun is where we obtain our primary source of vitamin D, but the sun cannot be substituted for food.

Should you decide to attempt the Breatharian diet, ensure that you do so when required to use minimal energy. This means you should not try this diet if you plan on being on the go in the next few weeks. So if you have a lot of work to complete, a trip to attend, or anything else that requires you to exert a good amount of energy, then it would be wise to reconsider practicing this diet until you can relax and minimize the amount of energy you expend. The last thing you need is to suffer from severe dehydration or for your body to go into shock from the lack of nutrients available for it to function properly.

Never give in to pressure from others. While others say they have successfully gone on the Breatharian diet, they may not enlighten you on all there is to know about how they approached the diet. For example, some people claim they could avoid food and drinks, but they may have secretly eaten and drank something when no one was watching. Even if you have successfully completed a minor attempt at the Breatharian diet and succeeded, that does not give you the ok to attempt it for a more extended period.

Consider going on another type of diet that is not as strict as the Breatharian diet to see how your body and mind react to the change. First, you may consider going on a diet where all you consume are liquid substances. If your body has a hard time adjusting to this change, your body will probably have an even more challenging time adapting to the Breatharian diet. Imagine not being able to fuel your body with any type of substance; that can be an extremely tough process to have to go through.

The choice between whether or not you want to attempt the Breatharian diet is yours alone. Although there are numerous reports of people dying due to trying the diet, there are also numerous instances where people moved forward in life just fine after they went through the change in their lives. This is because no person has the same body structure, and everyone has a different path in life, deciding to go on the Breatharian diet, one that each individual must determine on their own.

THE LIFE OF SOMEONE ON THE BREATHARIAN DIET

A person who lives on the Breatharian diet can be seen going in and out of meditation throughout the day. Most people meditate after they are immersed into the diet fully. The meditation serves as a way for the person to limit their body functions and try and tap into their prana to use that as a source of fuel for their body.

People practicing the Breatharian diet are not limited to certain activities daily. For example, most Breatharians choose to meditate to achieve enlightenment and help their body function on air and sunlight, yet others choose to spend their time elsewhere. In some cases, people practicing the Breatharian diet have completed small exercises.

Breatharians can watch television, engage in conversation with the company of friends and family, and even participate in hobbies they enjoy. As long as they are not eating or drinking anything throughout this process, it is okay for a Breatharian to live as normal a life as possible. In fact, in some cases, it is encouraged for a Breatharian to try and live as they normally would to help their body adjust to the change of not eating food.

A Breatharian is not required to meditate while making an effort to transform air and sunlight into energy. However, although a Breatharian may do as they please, it is recommended that all Breatharians focus a great deal of their time and effort towards achieving their goal of allowing their body to utilize the sun and air as primary sources of energy.

Most Breatharians believe the world surrounding them is the biggest influence on whether or not they can successfully achieve their goal of using the sun and air as sustenance. Therefore, it is not uncommon for people interested in the Breatharian diet to travel to secluded areas for a while to get away from society. A Breatharian can avoid the world's distractions and meditate in peace in a natural environment. Practicing Breatharianism away from large cities and groups can also help a person avoid the temptation of giving in to their hunger and eating food.

Air pollution is one of the top complaints of Breatharians. For a person going through this diet to be successful, they insist that clean air and a positive environment are vital. When the body attempts to use polluted air as a source of sustenance, it becomes hard for the person to focus and concentrate. This is another reason why many Breatharians reside in secluded natural areas to get away from pollution.

Reverting Back And Forth between the Breatharian Diet

No one can survive on the Breatharian diet forever. When a person reaches a certain limit while on the Breatharian diet, they typically revert to eating. The person often chooses to eat any foods they wish for a short period. Then, the person uses the experience as a learning lesson on how to go for longer periods without the need to eat food.

Notable Breatharians have been known to binge eat after going on this diet. People claim that those who go on and off the diet and who binge eat junk and fast food are hypocrites, but some, such as Wiley Brooks, have a legitimate justification for eating these types of foods. In 2003 Brooks told Colors magazine that he is sometimes spotted eating unhealthy foods is that when he is in a junk environment eating junk foods helps him find balance.

Reverting back and forth between eating healthily for your body and preventing your body from receiving the nourishment it needs is not healthy for any individual. The body needs regular and consistent nourishment to be as strong as possible at all times. Therefore, medical professionals do not recommend reverting back and forth between the Breatharian diet and regular eating.

Numerous Breatharians claim that each time they finish another cycle of going on the diet, they feel much more at peace with their body and mind. Meaning, Breatharians like the feeling of when they complete a few days or longer without eating any food or water. No one is inside the body of each person who completes the Breatharian diet, so it is not possible to gauge how many are telling the truth. However, suppose there is one fundamental about the human body inherent in each person. In that case, it is the fact that we naturally feel better about ourselves after we take the time to complete a goal we set out to accomplish.

The Breatharian diet does share its set of risks for people, yet it can positively influence people. People who successfully go through short periods without food and water will feel accomplished, thus improving their mood and immune system. Still, medical professionals recommend that each person find some type of sustenance to fuel their body, or else it can cause severe damage.

CONCLUSION

The Breatharian diet is still practiced today by countless people worldwide. The variations of this diet are extensive, and most do include consuming water and tea. Should a person attempt this diet, they need to be very conscious of its negative effects on the human body. Share the knowledge you acquired in this book with those you know interested in practicing the Breatharian diet.

Death is not something you would wish upon people you love, no matter how much you support them in their various endeavors. Supporting someone in almost all of their passions in life is positive, but allowing someone to put their body and mind at risk is not positive. Help spread the word about what you learned about Breatharianism so that people can make informed decisions on whether or not they wish to attempt this way of living.

Since many people have died attempting this diet, it has lessened in popularity in recent years. Since one of the prominent advocates for this type of lifestyle, Jasmuheen had her credibility in question, many people began to rethink their decision to follow this diet. As noted earlier in the book, Jasmuheen not only had her home stocked with food, she was only able to survive a little over three days before her body required physical sustenance to function properly. Most people believe she lied about continuing on the Breatharian diet for a significant length of time because she could not function for at least five days on the diet.

People go on hunger strikes to protest for various reasons and can function for months without food, but the lack of hydration destroys a person. The body can survive a long period without any food, as long as it has water. Despite the body being able to survive for quite some time without food, it is still not recommended by practitioners to deny the body the nourishment it needs; the human body requires regular sustenance to maintain normal bodily and mental functions, and without proper nutrition, the body will begin to shut down in different areas.

It is possible to go on the Breatharian diet as you have learned. How long you can survive without any food or water depends on the condition of your body. A healthy person without any medical conditions should be able to survive a week or a little longer by not drinking any food or water. Still, as Jasmuheen demonstrated, some people cannot go longer than four days without needing nourishment. The risk is too great to deny the body the ability to eat and drink properly.

No one wants to become severely injured to the point where their body is not functioning at its best any longer. Imagine going through a stroke and realizing that you lost half the function of one of your arms in the process. Most Breatharians believe this type of medical condition will not harm their bodies, but the truth is a person may very well become severely injured due to going through this diet.

When attempting to live without any food or water for any time with a group of people, it is wise to keep an eye on one another. Make sure that you are functional enough to be alert and aware of what is going on in your current situation. There is no need for anyone to exert a great deal of energy while going through the practice of eating no food and drinking no water.

At any moment when you notice someone looks fatigued to the point where they are at risk for a serious injury, it is time you seek medical attention. Attempt to give the person a small amount of water to hydrate them, but do not make a sudden and drastic change to the diet. As mentioned earlier in this book, an extremely dehydrated person may have their body overcompensates for this lack of water and could sustain brain damage if too much water or food is consumed too soon after fasting for a while.

The purpose of this book is not to necessarily sway your opinion on attempting the Breatharian diet; it was created to act as a source of information about the diet. At the end of the day, what you choose to do with your own body is entirely up to you. All this book can serve to present is what this diet means for your body and mind. Some people have been able to go through the Breatharian diet for a few days and reverted back just fine. Others found it extremely difficult and would never attempt such a diet again.

In life, you should have as much information as possible about a particular topic before you allow it to change your life forever potentially. Since the Breatharian diet can be a drastically life-changing event, it is good to study the diet as much as possible before reverting to a lifestyle of no or minimal food. Therefore, continue your education and research about the Breatharian diet to know precisely what it is you are getting yourself into.

Reading this book does not mean you have to practice the Breatharian diet for the rest of your life. Instead, the goal of this book was to serve as an overview of the Breatharian diet to allow those interested in the practice to make a more informed decision on how the diet can influence their life and provide general knowledge to anyone who is genuinely curious about learning more about the diet.
